TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Governor Ron DeSantis issued a statement addressing Florida’s ongoing condominium affordability crisis, highlighting the financial strain recent legislation has placed on residents—particularly seniors living on fixed incomes.

DeSantis acknowledged that while prior reforms were passed with good intentions, the resulting mandatory maintenance assessments have significantly increased condo fees, forcing some residents out of their homes.

In response, he voiced support for a legislative proposal by Senator Jennifer Bradley, describing it as a more balanced solution.

Bradley’s bill includes several measures previously suggested by the governor, such as:
– Enhanced transparency and accountability in condo association management.
– Stronger voting integrity protections for association decisions.
– Increased flexibility for funding necessary repairs.

DeSantis criticized the House’s version of the proposal, saying it “prioritizes special interests and developers” and would further aggravate the situation for Florida homeowners.

“We must act now to protect Floridians and ensure they aren’t priced out of their homes,” DeSantis said, urging lawmakers to focus on solutions that support residents rather than external stakeholders.

The legislative session continues as both chambers work toward a compromise on condo reform, a pressing issue in the wake of ongoing concerns about structural safety and financial sustainability in multi-family housing across the state.
