SHERIFF IVEY: we will continue to lock you up for your poor choices that put everyone in the danger zone

The biggest shock was finding his wife in the passenger seat and a sleeping 1-year-old and 8-year-old in the back of the vehicle.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA—Meet Juan Espinosa, who must not have realized that the quote “I feel the need…the need for speed” was about flying fighter jets, not a Chevy Equinox going up I-95.
Sunday morning at approximately 2:20 a.m., Deputy Thomas Jenkinson was driving on I-95 northbound when he saw a vehicle about to do a flyby, coming up behind him at Mach speed.
As Deputy Jenkinson began to slow his vehicle to prepare for a traffic stop, he quickly noticed the subject vehicle hit the brakes, but not before he clocked him at approximately 118 miles per hour.
Deputy Jenkinson got behind the vehicle, which quickly pulled over in the center median.
As Deputy Jenkinson approached the driver and began speaking with him, he noticed a smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle, but that wasn’t the biggest shock. The biggest shock was finding his wife in the passenger seat, and then a sleeping 1-year-old and 8 year in the back of the vehicle.
Folks, no matter how many times we say it, people continue to put their lives at risk, the innocent lives of our citizens on the roadway, and in this case, the people who he should love and care for the most, his family.
Espinosa was showing signs indicating that he appeared to be driving under the influence, so Deputies requested that he perform Field Sobriety Exercises, along with providing a sample of his breath to determine if there was any alcohol in his system.
Of course, the requests by Deputies were quickly met with a response of negative ghostrider, but that didn’t stop Espinosa from taking a non-stop flight straight to Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge for DUI and Child Neglect Without Great Bodily Harm.
Folks, I know this won’t stop people from making the decision to drink and drive, but I promise you we will continue to lock you up for your poor choices that put everyone in the danger zone.
