BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA — Brevard Public School’s students and community leaders came together at Roosevelt Elementary School in Cocoa Beach, to celebrate Bike & Roll to School Day, highlighting both safe transportation and student creativity.
The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, in collaboration with the Florida Department of Transportation’s Central Florida office, recognized two young students for their winning entries in the 2024 Mobility Week Bike Lane Design Contest.
Fifth-grader Mackenzie impressed judges with her vibrant “Beach Baby” design, featuring a surfer cruising on a bike with a surfboard in tow — a perfect nod to the Space Coast lifestyle.
First-grader Pedro also captured attention with his “Rock & Road” design, bringing a bold, punk-inspired style to the theme of safe biking.
Both students’ artwork has been permanently installed on the sidewalk in front of Roosevelt Elementary, transforming their creative efforts into a lasting reminder that promotes active transportation and pedestrian safety.
The event celebrated the national Bike & Roll to School Day and kicked off Bike Month in Brevard County, encouraging families to consider safe and healthy transportation options. Organizers praised the students for using their artistic talents to make a positive impact on their community.
Roosevelt Elementary now proudly features these student-created sidewalk symbols, which inspire students and visitors to stay active and ride safely daily.
