WASHINGTON D.C. – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and several fellow Democrats are raising the possibility of impeaching President Donald Trump following his decision to authorize a military strike on Iran without prior Congressional approval.

“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” Ocasio-Cortez posted on social media Saturday night, shortly after Trump announced the strike targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The New York congresswoman, now in her fourth term, accused Trump of recklessly escalating tensions. “He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations,” she wrote. “It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”

Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois echoed those concerns, calling the president’s unilateral military action “an unambiguous impeachable offense.”

“This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program,” Casten wrote on social media. “To be clear, I do not dispute that Iran is a nuclear threat. But no president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the U.S. without Congressional approval.”

Casten, who also serves his fourth term representing parts of the southwestern Chicago suburbs, added: “I’m not saying we have the votes to impeach. I’m saying that you DO NOT do this without Congressional approval.”

The strike has reignited debate over the limits of presidential war powers and the role of Congress in authorizing military action abroad.
