FTC: preventing the spread of illegal sexually explicit material remains a top priority

It was a significant day for online safety as the Federal Trade Commission and the Utah Division of Consumer Protection announced a settlement with Aylo, the parent company behind more than 100 adult websites, including Pornhub, YouPorn, and Redtube. The settlement followed findings that the platforms distributed child sexual abuse material and non-consensual images and videos.

(FTC) – It was a significant day for online safety as the Federal Trade Commission and the Utah Division of Consumer Protection announced a settlement with Aylo, the parent company behind more than 100 adult websites, including Pornhub, YouPorn, and Redtube.

The settlement followed findings that the platforms distributed child sexual abuse material and non-consensual images and videos.

Under the agreement, Aylo must introduce a clear and accessible system for reporting illegal content. Each site will now feature a Content Removal Request tool, allowing users to flag harmful material. Once reported, Aylo is required to suspend the identified content while reviewing it.

If the review confirms the material is illegal, it must be permanently removed. Content involving children will trigger an immediate ban on the uploader, along with a mandatory report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The order also mandates that Aylo provide case managers to individuals requesting the removal of their images. These case managers will guide victims through the process and keep them informed as their cases proceed.

For the FTC, preventing the spread of illegal sexually explicit material remains a top priority. Beginning in May 2026, the agency will begin using its civil enforcement powers to uphold provisions of the Take It Down Act, while the Department of Justice will pursue criminal enforcement.

The announcement highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen protections for both children and adults online.

The FTC continues to encourage the public to learn more about online privacy and report suspected violations at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
