(FOX NEWS) – President Donald Trump called for prayers for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk after he was shot in Utah.
“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” Trump posted to Truth Social on Wednesday afternoon.
Kirk is in Utah and was scheduled to appear at Utah Valley University on Wednesday as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”
Ellen Treanor, associate vice president of strategic communication management at Utah Valley University, told Fox News Digital shots were fired at Charlie Kirk from a building about 200 yards from the tent where he was speaking.
Treanor told Fox News Digital Kirk was “immediately” taken away from campus by his security team following the shooting.
A suspect has been taken into custody, according to the university.
FBI Director Kash Patel released the following statement, “We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
