Trader Joe’s to Open First Brevard Store in Former Michael’s Craft Store at The Avenue Viera

Location could be open by March 2026

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — Shoppers on the Space Coast will soon be able to stock up on Trader Joe’s signature products without making the drive to Orlando.
Trader Joe’s has developed a devoted fan base nationwide, thanks to its affordable private-label goods, unique seasonal offerings, and friendly customer service.
For Space Coast residents, the arrival of the grocer represents the end of years of waiting — and the beginning of a much shorter drive for their favorite finds.
The popular grocery chain officially confirmed it will open a new store at The Avenue Viera, taking over the space formerly occupied by Michael’s craft store.
The company added “Melbourne” to the “Coming Soon” section of its website this week, listing the address as 2221 Town Center Avenue.
Jeff Law, general manager of The Avenue Viera, said bringing this highly requested and much-loved grocer to the community has been a priority.
Rumors of Trader Joe’s arrival began circulating in March after a building permit application tied to the retailer was filed with Brevard County.
Speculation grew stronger in July when Michael’s closed its doors and signs appeared on the windows hinting at a new tenant, and a permit approval cleared the way for renovations to begin.
While Trader Joe’s has not yet announced an opening date, new Trader Joe’s locations typically open about six months after appearing on the company’s “coming soon” list. If that timeline holds, Brevard shoppers could be filling carts by March.
The closest stores currently are in Orlando and Winter Park, with another one in the works for Daytona Beach.
