BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A 67-year-old woman from Melbourne Beach was killed Friday evening in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Eber Boulevard after a box truck driver ran a red light, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:42 p.m. when the 26-year-old Melbourne man driving a 2017 box truck was traveling south on Hollywood Boulevard and failed to stop at a red light, investigators said.

At the same time, a 2021 Porsche Taycan driven by the Melbourne Beach woman was heading east on Eber Boulevard through the intersection. The front of the truck slammed into the left side of the Porsche, causing the truck to overturn and roll into a grassy ditch on the southeast corner of the intersection.

According to the FHP report, the overturned truck struck a raised curb, scattering debris that hit the windshield of another vehicle stopped at the light.

The impact from the collision pushed the Porsche into several other cars that were waiting in the northbound lanes of Hollywood Boulevard — including a 2022 Mazda 3, a 2016 Honda Odyssey, a 2019 Ford Escape, and a 2011 Toyota Camry.

The Porsche driver was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

The box truck driver sustained serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles — including adults and a 5-year-old child — suffered minor or no injuries, according to FHP.

Troopers said charges are pending, and the crash remains an active criminal investigation.
