Hundreds of students grades 4–12 converged to code, construct, race and pitch

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA — Satellite High School transformed into a hub of imagination, engineering, and competitive energy on Friday as Brevard Public Schools hosted Innovation Games 2025, an all-day STEM showcase sponsored by Northrop Grumman.
Hundreds of students from grades 4–12 converged on campus to code, construct, race, and pitch their way through a series of challenges designed to spark creativity and build future-ready skills.
From buzzing drone courses to the splash of underwater SeaPerch robots navigating obstacle paths, the event unfolded as a dynamic celebration of hands-on learning.
Solar Sprint cars sped across the courtyard, student teams coded their way through rapid-fire programming battles, and young inventors stepped into a Shark Tank-style spotlight to present original solutions to real-world problems.
For Northrop Grumman, the event represented more than a sponsorship—it was a connection to the community’s next generation of thinkers and doers.
“Supporting the community in which we not only work, but where our families live and children receive their education is important to us,” said Janice Zilch, Vice President of Multi-Domain Command and Control Programs and Melbourne Site Leader for Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems.
“It’s an honor to inspire the next generation of STEM pioneers through events like Brevard Public Schools’ Innovation Games.”

The Brevard Schools Foundation underscored how teamwork between educators and industry leaders fuels opportunities like these.
“The Innovation Games highlight what is possible when educators, industry partners, and volunteers work together to invest in young minds,” said Janice Kershaw, President and CEO. “Northrop Grumman’s support helps expand hands-on STEM challenges that inspire students to imagine, design, and solve.”
Across each competition zone, students collaborated intensely—debugging code on the fly, adjusting drone flight paths, fine-tuning solar-powered vehicles, and troubleshooting underwater robot sensors. Educators say those moments of trial and triumph are precisely what the event aims to create.
Events like Innovation Games play a vital role in strengthening Brevard County’s future workforce.
By connecting students directly with real-world STEM experiences and industry partners, BPS leaders say the day builds critical thinking, teamwork, and technical skills needed for high-demand careers—helping ensure Brevard remains a leader in innovation, aerospace, and advanced technology.
As the final drones landed and the last invention pitches wrapped, one thing was clear: Innovation Games 2025 wasn’t just a competition. It was a launchpad for the county’s next generation of scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers—proving that the future of STEM in Brevard is bold, bright, and already taking shape.
