Multiple Teams in the Hunt for a State Championship

Viera and Holy Trinity are both ranked within the top 30 teams in the nation and are trying to prove that they deserve their rankings in the current playoffs. Viera has no blemishes on their overall record other than multiple ties. Holy Trinity has one loss and one tie, but is confident they will be back in the state championship and finish what they did not last year.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Viera and Holy Trinity are both ranked within the top 30 teams in the nation and are trying to prove that they deserve their rankings in the current playoffs. Viera has no blemishes on their overall record other than multiple ties.

Holy Trinity has one loss and one tie, but is confident they will be back in the state championship and finish what they did not last year.

BOYS SOCCER

Viera holds the No. 1 seed in their region and defeated Lyman 2-1 to move on to the Regional semifinals against Oviedo. Last year, the Hawks were defeated by the Melbourne Bulldogs in the first round.

Melbourne is the No. 3 in the Class 6A region 2 bracket and defeated Wiregrass Ranch 3-2 in the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs draw Sunlake in the second round.

*If Viera and Melbourne both win in the Semifinals, they will face each other in the Regional Final, with the winner heading to the States.

Holy Trinity has the No. 1 seed in the Class 2A Region 2 FHSAA state tournament. They shutout The First Academy in round one, 4-0. Holy Trinity will now host Benjamin High School to move on to the Regional Finals.

Merritt Island has an opportunity to reach the regional finals as its 12-5 season earned it the No. 2 seed in the Class 4A Region 2 bracket. The Mustangs dominated Eustis 6-0 in round one and now face Nature Coast Tech.

Satellite earned the No. 4 seed in the Class 4A region 2 bracket and, like Merritt Island, demolished their first round opponent, Lake Wales, 5-0. Satellite will face No. 1 seed Bishop Moore for a chance at the Regional Finals.

*If Satellite and Merritt Island both win in the Semifinals, they will face each other in the Regional Final, with the winner heading to the States.

Cocoa Beach defeated Tampa Catholic in the first round of the FHSAA state tournament 2-1. The No. 5-seeded Minutemen will now have a tall task: defeating Lake Highland Prep; if they do, it will be Cocoa Beach’s first trip to the Regional Finals in program history.

The lady Viera Hawks are highly ranked within the state and nation. As the No. 2 seed in the state tournament, the Hawks won their quarterfinal matchup 8-0 over Wharton and now face Steinbrenner in the Semifinals.

GIRLS SOCCER

Just like the boys, the Lady Viera Hawks are highly ranked within the state and nation. As the No. 2 seed in the state tournament, the Hawks won their quarterfinal matchup 8-0 over Wharton and now face Steinbrenner in the Semifinals.

The Merritt Island Lady Mustangs are the No. 5 seed in the Class 4A Region 2 bracket. With their 1-0 win over Mount Dora, they have a matchup set with No. 1 seed Bishop Moore.

Satellite Scorpions hold the No. 3 seed in the 4A region 2 bracket and won their quarterfinal match 4-1 over Lake Wales. The lady Scorpions will now face Nature Coast Tech for a chance at the Regional Final.

*If Satellite and Merritt Island both win in the Semifinals, they will face each other in the Regional Final, with the winner heading to the States.

Edgewood and West Shore will face off in the Regional Semifinals; both squads won their quarterfinal matchups convincingly. (West Shore defeated Edgewood in the district championship two weeks ago)

Holy Trinity defeated their rivals, MCC, in extra time to move on to the Regional Semifinals. The Tigers will now face King’s Academy, the No. 1 seed. If the Tigers win, they will inevitably play a Brevard County team (Edgewood or West Shore).
