BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Community leaders and nonprofit professionals will have an opportunity to strengthen their organizations later this month when LEAD Brevard, in partnership with the Community Foundation for Brevard, hosts a full-day Board Governance training workshop focused on building stronger, more effective nonprofit boards.
The workshop is scheduled for Friday, March 20, at the Center for Collaboration, located at 1100 Rockledge Blvd. in Rockledge.
The training will be facilitated by nonprofit governance expert Dave Sternberg of Loring, Sternberg and Associates.
Organizers say the session is designed to help nonprofit leaders and board members better understand the critical elements of effective governance while improving their organization’s capacity and long-term sustainability.
Participants will learn about key components of high-performing boards, including how to identify, recruit, and orient new board members, understand board roles and responsibilities, build an effective board structure, and strengthen a board’s role in fundraising.
The cost of the workshop is $85, which includes training materials, refreshments, and lunch.
“In my 30-year career in the independent nonprofit sector, this is the best governance and fundraising workshop for board and staff I’ve attended,” said Theresa Grimison, president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Brevard.
“Dave Sternberg will keep you engaged and laughing throughout, and you’ll leave well-equipped with proven data and practical tools to help your group build capacity.”

Organizers say the training is designed for both board members and nonprofit leadership teams, providing practical strategies to improve governance practices and strengthen fundraising efforts.
Sternberg brings more than 25 years of nonprofit experience to the workshop.
A graduate of The Ohio State University, he is a founding partner of Loring, Sternberg & Associates and the author of Fearless Fundraising for Nonprofit Boards (2nd edition), a best-selling publication among BoardSource resources.
In 2008, Sternberg was named a Senior Governance Consultant for BoardSource, and he has since facilitated hundreds of board retreats across multiple nonprofit subsectors.
His work often includes governance assessments that help organizations connect their mission-driven goals with effective fundraising strategies while building dynamic boards suited to today’s nonprofit environment.
Clients frequently praise Sternberg for his ability to understand organizational challenges and deliver practical, actionable guidance for boards and leadership teams.
