BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Police Department recently joined forces with several agencies and organizations for a rail safety enforcement operation aimed at reminding drivers of one critical rule: never stop on railroad tracks.

The initiative brought together the Cocoa Police Department, Rockledge Police Department, Florida East Coast Railway, and Brightline’s safety program, GoBrightline, to raise awareness and enforce traffic laws at rail crossings throughout the area.

Officials say the operation focused on educating motorists about the dangers of stopping on railroad tracks, especially when traffic is backed up. Drivers are urged not to enter a crossing unless they can completely clear the tracks.

“It only takes a second for a bad decision to turn into a tragedy,” officials said, emphasizing that trains cannot stop quickly and drivers must remain alert when approaching crossings.

In addition to the safety message, law enforcement reminded drivers that stopping on railroad tracks is not only dangerous but also illegal. Violators can face a $500 citation for blocking the tracks.

The campaign reinforces a simple but important message for drivers: “See tracks. Think train. Don’t stop on the tracks.”

Law enforcement agencies say continued enforcement and public awareness efforts are key to preventing accidents and keeping drivers, pedestrians, and train crews safe near rail crossings.
