BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — A 59-year-old Cocoa woman has been arrested after police say she intentionally swerved her vehicle toward a group of children and referred to the incident as “target practice” while making racial slurs.
Cocoa police said that Pamela Dresser drove her vehicle toward the children, causing alarm among those nearby.
According to an arrest affidavit from the Cocoa Police Department, the incident occurred earlier this month when four children were playing on a sidewalk.
Witnesses told Cocoa police that after swerving toward the group, Dresser made comments describing the act as “target practice” and shouted racial slurs.
According to a Cocoa police spokesperson, when officers contacted Dresser, she denied intentionally steering her vehicle toward the children.
According to the affidavit, she told investigators she made a wide turn to avoid a cart that was in the roadway. Dresser said she then drove into a nearby gravel lot, where she performed “donuts” with her vehicle.
Police said Dresser admitted to making the “target practice” remark but claimed it was intended as a joke.
The affidavit also states that Dresser threatened responding officers during the investigation.
Dresser was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, and corruption by threat against a public servant.
