BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Anita Cecile Whitener Hoffler passed into the care of her Savior on April 13, 2026, in Titusville, Florida, surrounded by her family.

Born on March 21, 1939, in Lenoir, NC, she graduated as valedictorian of Lenoir High School in 1956. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a nursing student and was among the first freshman women to live on campus.

Before completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she married medical student G. Wyckliffe “Wyck” Hoffler, whom she met through the Baptist Student Union at UNC.

As Wyck completed his residencies, Anita supported their growing family as a nurse and CNA instructor in Richmond, Virginia, and Augusta, Georgia.

The couple also spent two years in Augsburg, Germany, during Wyck’s military service. After additional time in Columbus, Ohio, the family eventually settled in Houston, Texas, before making Titusville, Florida, their home in 1977.

Wherever she lived, Anita served faithfully.

She volunteered as a school nurse, church nursery coordinator, librarian, Meals on Wheels driver, respite care worker, Habitat for Humanity volunteer, choir member, Vacation Bible School teacher, and retreat hostess. In every role—large or small—she quietly, generously, and consistently made others feel loved.

She was a tireless servant who worked behind the scenes to make life easier for those around her.

She baked tens of thousands of cookies for family and friends, always welcomed guests to her table, and regularly opened her home to international visitors during holidays.

Anita loved to read and maintained a steady rhythm of writing letters to her family for decades. She cared for a vibrant flower garden, kept a warm and orderly home, and delighted in watching birds.

She had a sharp wit, enjoyed a good pun, and her face would light up at the sight of a young child.

When her primary parenting duties were over, Anita returned to nursing and served for over ten years at Jess Parrish Memorial Hospital, often staying late to complete paperwork so others could go home.

Her life reflected a deep commitment to Christ, marked by humility, service, and love for others. She lived out the call of Philippians 2 and Romans 12—putting others first, loving with sincerity, and serving faithfully with the gifts God gave her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Wyck Hoffler of Titusville, Florida; her children Eric (Cheryl) Hoffler of Fayetteville, Georgia; Karla (Clint) Rockwell of Bonifay, Florida; and Alan (Haley) Hoffler of Apex, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

A memorial celebration of a life well-lived will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Titusville at 2 p.m. The family will receive guests prior to the ceremony.
