BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA — Construction on the initial phase of the drainage improvement project on Riverside Drive, located south of Sand Dollar Road and north of the entrance to The Sanctuary neighborhood at Falcon Drive in Indialantic, is nearing completion.

The current phase of the project, the installation of a new box culvert system at the Sand Dollar Canal, is anticipated to be substantially complete at the end of April.

This progress will allow Riverside Drive to reopen to traffic.

While the roadway is expected to reopen, residents should be aware that construction activities and intermittent lane closures will continue.

Crews will be on-site addressing punch list items for the box culvert phase and constructing the adjacent phase of the project, which involves installing retention walls along the Sand Dollar Canal east of the new box culvert.

Motorists may continue to see construction equipment within the right-of-way during this time.

The current phase includes replacing the existing culvert crossing with two new dual 8-foot-by-3-foot concrete box culverts, along with associated roadway and drainage improvements designed to enhance safety, increase capacity, and improve long-term stormwater resilience in this high-traffic corridor.

Looking ahead, the roadway is expected to remain open for a limited period before construction begins on Phase 2 of the project. Phase 2 will extend from the Sand Dollar Canal to Coral Way and will require additional temporary traffic impacts.

The current phase includes replacing the existing culvert crossing with two new dual 8-foot-by-3-foot concrete box culverts, along with associated roadway and drainage improvements designed to enhance safety, increase capacity, and improve long-term stormwater resilience in this high-traffic corridor.

This next phase will include:

• A full road closure for an estimated six weeks to complete drainage improvements from the Sand Dollar Canal through Sand Dollar Road

• A subsequent single-lane closure with temporary traffic control measures to safely guide motorists

• An additional future temporary road closure between Sand Pine Road and Coral Way, with scheduling details to be announced once the contractor’s construction timeline is finalized

Brevard County will continue coordinating with Brevard Public Schools, the City of Melbourne, and public safety partners to minimize disruptions to residents and commuters.

Access to residential driveways will be maintained throughout construction.
