WATCH: Young Zebra ‘Bolt’ Learns Voluntary Hoof Care from the Brevard Zoo Animal Care Team
Bolt is one of the youngest zebras to ever participate in hooftrims

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Hoofstock in human care need their hooves to be maintained by people.
It’s a painless process that helps them avoid overgrowth, arthritis, fractures, and more issues.
“Bolt is one of our youngest zebras to ever participate in hooftrims,” said a Brevard Zoo spokesperson.
Bolt picked up on it fairly quickly, thanks to watching Mom, Iggy, get her hooves trimmed and to his relationship with his animal care team.
“Giving our animal residents choice and control is so important to us, so Bolt always has the option to not participate in a trim or end a session early,” said a Brevard Zoo spokesperson.
“By getting him used to hooftrims, we hope to give him the confidence to be a part of his own care. We hope to set him up for success and healthy hooves throughout his life.”
At Brevard Zoo, moments like this reflect a broader commitment to innovative, compassionate animal care and conservation.
Located in the heart of Melbourne, the Brevard Zoo is widely recognized for its immersive habitats, hands-on guest experiences, and dedication to both local and global wildlife conservation efforts.
