Fatal Crash Closes State Road 520 in Cocoa After Freight Train Strikes Pedestrian

State Road 520 was shut down in both directions at U.S. Highway 1 and Blake Avenue Tuesday morning following a fatal crash involving a Florida East Coast Railway freight train.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – State Road 520 was shut down in both directions at U.S. Highway 1 and Blake Avenue Tuesday morning following a fatal crash involving a Florida East Coast Railway freight train.

According to Cocoa police, the FEC freight train struck a pedestrian near the SR 520 and U.S. 1 corridor.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Road 520 has since reopened.

Patrol officers and traffic homicide investigators remain actively working the incident while directing traffic in the area.

Motorists were being asked to avoid the area and use Dixon Boulevard and Rosa L. Jones Drive as alternate routes.

No additional details have been released at this time.
