OYSTER BAY, N.Y. — A new academic initiative designed to support resilient undergraduate students officially opens applications today. The Keith D’Agostino Scholarship for Cancer Survivors provides financial assistance and professional encouragement to higher education students who have overcome a cancer diagnosis and demonstrate a commitment to future community or professional leadership.

The program offers a one-time financial award to a selected undergraduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university. Founded by senior financial executive Keith D’Agostino, the initiative recognizes the unique academic, personal, and financial challenges faced by students who have navigated a cancer journey.

“Resilience is not just about enduring difficult circumstances; it is about transforming those experiences into a foundation for leadership,” says Keith D’Agostino, founder of the program. “This initiative aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens of higher education for survivors who are determined to use their strength to impact their professional fields and communities positively.”

To qualify for the program, applicants must meet specific academic and personal criteria. The scholarship is open to current undergraduate students nationwide, ensuring broad accessibility for applicants from various backgrounds and fields of study.

The full eligibility requirements include:

•  Academic Status: Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university.

•  Survivor Status: Verification as a cancer survivor, welcoming individuals representing all cancer types and stages of survivorship.

•  Essay Submission: Completion of an original essay of 500 to 600 words addressing a specific prompt regarding personal growth and leadership.

The required essay prompt asks applicants: “How has your journey as a cancer survivor shaped your understanding of resilience, and how do you plan to apply that strength to your future professional or community leadership roles?”

Through this written submission, Keith D’Agostino seeks to identify a student who pairs strong academic ambition with the profound personal perspective gained during survivorship. The selection process focuses on the applicant’s ability to articulate how their medical journey influences their vision for future leadership.

The deadline for eligible undergraduate students to submit their completed applications and essays is January 15, 2027. Following a comprehensive review of all submissions, the official winner announcement takes place on February 15, 2027.

Keith D’Agostino brings nearly 30 years of experience in the financial sector to his philanthropic efforts, currently serving as a Senior Managing Director. Alongside his corporate achievements, Keith D’Agostino maintains a strong commitment to community service, youth sports coaching, and educational governance. This scholarship reflects his dedication to fostering the next generation of resilient professionals.
