BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A woman is dead following a violent two-vehicle crash Thursday night on South Babcock Street near University Boulevard, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
Police say officers responded at approximately 10 p.m. on April 30 after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a serious crash in the area of Babcock Street and University Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they discovered one of the vehicles had overturned, while another had been forced off the roadway and onto the sidewalk.
Preliminary investigators say a Ford F-350 traveling southbound on South Babcock Street crossed the median into the northbound lanes and collided with a 2016 Kia Soul.
Brevard County Fire Rescue transported the driver of the Kia to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The crash shut down all lanes of traffic in the area for several hours as officers conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved pending next-of-kin notification and the ongoing investigation.
The Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
