BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Flags across several government buildings in Florida will be flown at half-staff on Saturday, June 13, in honor of former U.S. Representative Bill Posey, who passed away on May 9, 2026, at the age of 78.

A longtime public servant, Posey began his political career in Rockledge, serving in several local government roles before being elected to the Florida House of Representatives and later the Florida Senate.

In 2009, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Florida’s 8th Congressional District until 2013.

Following redistricting, Posey represented Florida’s 15th Congressional District and served in Congress until 2025.

State officials praised Posey for his decades of dedicated service to Florida and the nation, noting his unwavering commitment to the citizens he represented throughout his career.

To honor his legacy, flags of the United States and the State of Florida will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee, the Brevard County Courthouse, and Palm Bay City Hall.

“Our prayers go out to his family,” state officials said in the announcement directing the observance.

Posey was widely respected throughout Brevard County and across Florida for his leadership, integrity, and lifelong dedication to public service.
