BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — Plans for a Brightline station on Florida’s Space Coast continue to move forward after the City of Cocoa secured a $2 million state grant to support the project.
The funding will help pay for the construction of an access road to a planned multimodal transportation station near the intersection of U.S. 1 and State Road 528, a key piece of infrastructure needed for the future station.
The announcement comes as Brightline faces increased financial scrutiny. Credit rating agency Fitch recently downgraded the passenger rail company’s credit rating, citing concerns over its debt obligations. Despite those concerns, local officials say the Space Coast project remains on track.
Cocoa leaders believe the station will become a major transportation hub that will strengthen the region’s economy by attracting more visitors and creating new development opportunities. The station is also expected to improve transportation connectivity for residents and travelers throughout Brevard County.
City officials have set a target opening date of 2030 for the Brightline station, although additional funding, planning, and construction work will be required before the project is completed.
The proposed station is expected to serve as a multimodal transportation center, providing connections between Brightline rail service and other local transportation options while supporting continued growth along the Space Coast.
