The team completed 680 hours of specialized patrol and narcotics-detection training
The Palm Bay Police Department has introduced Officer Rodriguez and his new four-legged partner, K9 Duke, following the completion of extensive patrol and drug-detection training.
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department has introduced Officer Rodriguez and his new four-legged partner, K9 Duke, following the completion of extensive patrol and drug-detection training.
The team successfully completed 500 hours of Basic Patrol Canine School, training in obedience, suspect apprehension, tracking, building searches, area searches, and article searches.
Officer Rodriguez and K9 Duke completed the demanding program while working through Florida’s challenging weather conditions, preparing them for a variety of situations they could encounter while serving the Palm Bay community.
Following their initial patrol training, the duo completed another 180 hours of specialized drug-detection training.
K9 Duke earned certifications at both the local and national levels for narcotics detection, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.
With 680 hours of specialized training completed, Officer Rodriguez and K9 Duke are officially on patrol and ready to serve and protect Palm Bay residents.
