Andrew Landers and Janelle Wimbush were arrested for speeding in Brevard County. (BCSO Image)
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Ok folks, it was Super Speeder Saturday…and we got ourselves a two-for-one special, or BOGO if you prefer, but either way we’ve got two fewer vacancies after we stopped one for racing, and my personal favorite, a Kia Carnival super speeding to get to on a cruise ship.
First up, was Cpl. Fedro, who was conducting traffic enforcement on U.S. 1 last night in Titusville, when he saw a dark-colored vehicle traveling approximately 100mph in the 55mph zone.
When the vehicle went by, he noticed there was a second vehicle, and the two appeared to be racing. To make matters worse, there were other vehicles on the road that were being overtaken by them and their foolishness.
Cpl. Fedro was able to conduct a traffic stop on the one vehicle, driven by Andrew Landers, who was ordered out of the vehicle and asked why he was racing.
Landers said the motorcycle pulled up next to him revving its engine, and they both took off attempting to outrun the other one.
Well, as you can probably guess, Landers didn’t win the race, but did get himself a ride in our pace car to Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge, where at least he was the first Super Speeder to get arrested that day.
Then today, Deputy Charles Hill from our Motor Unit was out on 95 as part of our “This Is The Only Warning You’re Getting” initiative when he observed a minivan cruising along at 109 mph.
Now, while I find that impressive, it’s still illegal, and by the time Deputy Hill caught up to the car, it was going 118 mph, which is even more unbelievable.
The driver, Janelle Wimbush, said her family missed their flight from Baltimore, so she was trying to drive them to Miami so they wouldn’t miss their cruise.
Unfortunately, for her, the only place she was cruising to was Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge.
Folks, the careless driving needs to stop. There’s no need to be out on our streets racing vehicles or speeding because you missed a flight. You’re putting lives at risk for your poor decisions and in Brevard County, we have Zero Tolerance for your excuses.
Another great job by Cpl. Fedro and Deputy Hill for keeping Brevard County safe.
