BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Board of County Commissioners will hold a regular meeting Tuesday, August 25, beginning at 9 a.m. inside the Commission Chambers at the Brevard County Government Center in Viera.
Commissioners are scheduled to consider several public hearings involving fire services, solid waste, stormwater assessments and county development policies.
The meeting will take place in Building C at 2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way.
Among the public hearings is a resolution establishing rates and charges for the county’s Hazardous Materials Special Operations Team, standby responses, fire prevention services and inspections.
The commission will also consider ratifying and certifying the annual Fire Services Non-Ad Valorem Assessment Roll for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
Additional public hearings will address the county’s solid waste special assessments, fees and charges, along with the annual Stormwater Utility Special Assessment Roll.
Commissioners are also expected to consider revisions to county procedures for reviewing development proposals submitted under Florida’s Live Local Act that would not otherwise be permissible under existing county regulations.
The Live Local Act is intended to encourage the construction of affordable and workforce housing by providing qualifying developments with certain zoning, land-use and tax incentives.
Another proposal would amend the portion of the Brevard County Code governing the county’s Planning and Zoning Board.
Merritt Island Development Dispute Returns to Commission
A group of properties on Merritt Island will be the subject of two separate agenda items.
Strada Development LLC, represented by attorney Kim Rezanka, is requesting an agricultural enclave certification for four properties in Commission District 2.
Commissioners will also consider a tentative settlement agreement involving the same properties under the Florida Land Use and Environmental Dispute Resolution Act.
The state law provides a process through which property owners may seek relief when they believe a governmental action has unfairly burdened the use of their land.
LNG Infrastructure Support Letter on Agenda
Under new business, commissioners will consider approving a letter supporting regional liquefied natural gas production and storage infrastructure at Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The proposal is listed as a miscellaneous new-business item on the agenda.
Consent Agenda Includes Wastewater, Libraries and Transportation
The commission’s consent agenda includes authorization related to financing the conversion of the South Beaches Wastewater Treatment Facility to advanced wastewater treatment.
Commissioners will also consider a stormwater education and outreach agreement involving Brevard County and several municipalities, including Cape Canaveral, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Grant-Valkaria, Indian Harbour Beach, Malabar, West Melbourne and Satellite Beach.

The disbursement of educational impact fees throughout Brevard County.

An educational facilities impact-fee exemption contract for the Sunset Palms development.

A state aid application for the Brevard County library system.

A transportation grant serving disadvantaged residents.

Renewal of Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity.

Authorization to seek rezoning of county-owned property in Indian Harbour Beach for sanitary sewer improvements.

Property and easement acquisition associated with the replacement of Lift Station M-13 on Merritt Island.
