Florida Tech’s Akos Hajagos Captures Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week Award

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Akos Hajagos of the Florida Tech men’s swimming team was announced as this week’s Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week, as released by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Hajagos is the second men’s swimmer to earn the honors for the Panthers this season after Luke Altmann earned the award for the Week of September 25 – October 1.

The Budapest, Hungary native managed to secure the Swimmer of the Week award by helping the Panthers defeat Lynn in a dual meet this past Friday by a score of 148-114.

Against the Fighting Knights, he recorded two individual wins this past weekend, coming in first in the Men’s 200 Butterfly and second in the 500 Freestyle. In relays, Hajagos participated in two relays as well, helping his relay teams come in second in the 200 Freestyle and third in the 200 Medley Relay.

For the 200 Butterfly, Hajagos managed to win the event with a time of 1:53.44, nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

In the 500 Yard Freestyle, he posted a time of 4:42.44 to win the race, two seconds ahead of the next closest competitor.

In relays, the squad of Daniel Aizenberg, Hajagos, Joshua Cajuste, and Zachary Reese swam a time of 1:26.92 in the 200 Yard Freestyle with Hajagos posting a 50-yard time of 21.38, the fourth-fastest individual time of all 32 swimmers competing in the relay.

The quartet of Hajagos, Matthew Heaphy, Matteo Caruso, and Martino recorded a time of 1:34.47. Hajagos swam the first leg of the race in a time of 24.08, the fastest of any lead-off swimmer in the relay.

Up Next:

The Panthers will return to action on Wednesday, November 8th in Fort Pierce for a tri-meet with Indian River State College and Keiser, which is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
