Florida Tech Panthers Softball Lands Three Players on the CSC Academic All-District Team

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Three members of the Florida Tech softball team earned a spot on the College Sports Communications Academic All-District team when the organization announced its selections on Tuesday afternoon.

Celeste Casillas, Kelly McLaughlin, and Ella Niles, the dedicated trio, represent the Panthers on the CSC Academic All-District Team. These three athletes were committed to the team by starting all 46 games this season.

The 2023 Academic All-District Women’s Basketball Teams, a prestigious selection by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top scholar-athletes for their exceptional performances on the field and in the classroom.

Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. The first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

Casillas, a senior, graduated with a degree in sports management and held a 3.67 cumulative grade point average. On the softball field, Casillas led the team with a .342 batting average.

The Hayward, California native also compiled 20 runs, 10 doubles, 26 RBI, and her first home run as a Panther. She also helped in the field as a shortstop, leading the team with 106 assists and tied for third in the conference, creating 11 double plays.

McLaughlin, a senior, graduated with a degree in Marketing while maintaining a 3.88 cumulative grade point average. She batted .273 and scored 28 runs, three doubles, two home runs, and 16 RBI. She also demonstrated her defensive prowess, grabbing 86 putouts and 80 assists in the field for a .976 fielding percentage.

Sophomore Niles is studying Business Administration and holds a 3.79 cumulative grade point average through four semesters. Niles tallied 32 hits, 8 RBI, 17 walks and a team-leading 32 runs scored.

She was sensational in center field, registering a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 57 putouts, 26 assists and no errors. The Hesperia, California native earned SSC All-Defensive team honors as one of just two players in the conference with a perfect fielding percentage.

Niles stepped in and made an impact in the circle, too. She made 21 appearances and started 19 games as a pitcher. The sophomore recorded a 3.51 ERA, nine complete games, two shutouts, and 10 strikeouts in 97.2 innings pitched.
