BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA—Melbourne native Vinny Capra has spent the past seven years between the minors and the majors, but through persistence and strong spring training, the third baseman has made the Milwaukee Brewers’ regular-season roster.

Capra grew up in Melbourne, attended Melbourne Central Catholic, and played a major role in the Hustlers’ first-ever baseball state championship in 2013.

After high school, Capra stayed local and attended Eastern Florida State College; during his time there, he hit over .300 in both seasons.

In his sophomore season, he was named to the Southern Conference First Team as an All-Conference shortstop. That season, he hit .377 with 11 doubles and four triples, scoring 32 runs and driving in 28.

The Melbourne native went on to the University of Richmond, and in his senior year, he would lead the team in hits, average, runs, home runs, and runs batted in.

By 2018, the Toronto Blue Jays drafted Capra in the 20th round and assigned him to the Low-A Vancouver Canadians, but year in and year out, Capra improved. Finally, on May 1, 2022, Capra would make his Major League debut.

Vinny Capra has spent the past seven years between the minors and the majors, but through persistence and strong spring training showing, Capra has made the regular season roster for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Capra appeared in eight games with the Blue Jays that season and missed most of the season with the AAA Buffalo after undergoing surgery.

After resigning with the Blue Jays, Capra was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing in 34 games with their Triple-A affiliate and eventually suiting up for the Pirates.

After nine games with the Pirates, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed Capra off the waivers in November 2023.

To begin the 2024 season, he was designated to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. After playing well, Capra was called up for the Brewers and evaluated over three games before being sent back to Nashville.

Capra put together a stellar spring training this year to earn a regular-season roster spot with the Brewers. He finished this spring with six home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .292 batting average. The third baseman will be looking to make his mark this season with the Brewers.
