BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A 30-year-old FedEx employee has been arrested after authorities determined he fabricated a story about being shot in a company parking lot in March, allegedly in an attempt to gain sympathy from a female coworker.

Alexander Lefort has been charged with tampering with evidence, discharging a firearm in public, and filing a false report, as authorities believe Lefort shot himself in an attempt to elicit sympathy from the female employee.

Lefort initially claimed he was shot in the abdomen by an unknown man while cleaning a spill near his blue Chevy Silverado at the FedEx facility on Grissom Parkway in Cocoa, between 5:40 and 5:46 a.m.

Lefort described the alleged shooter as a white male wearing sweatpants, sneakers, a black hoodie, and a balaclava. He said the suspect, who had green or brown eyes and appeared to be under the influence, seemed startled before shooting him.

Lefort was taken to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for treatment. However, inconsistencies in his account quickly raised suspicion of Cocoa police detectives..

Surveillance footage from the FedEx parking lot showed only one person—matching Lefort’s description—walking toward the building. No other individuals were seen in the area at the time of the reported incident.

During the search of Lefort’s truck, police found a 9mm handgun registered in his name, along with a large first aid duffle bag. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement lab report later confirmed that the shell casing found at the scene was fired from Lefort’s firearm.

Further inquiry revealed a possible motive. A coworker told investigators that Lefort had been arriving unusually early for his shifts since a female employee returned to work. Sherman, another employee, said he had told the female employee that Lefort may have been watching her.
