BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A Brevard County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man early Tuesday morning after responding to a domestic disturbance involving a weapon.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 3:27 a.m. in the area of Palm Circle in Palm Shores.
Deputies were dispatched following a 911 call reporting that a male subject inside a residence was acting violently and causing damage.
The caller stated they had locked themselves in a bathroom to avoid harm.
Upon arrival, a deputy met the caller outside the home and then approached the front door in an attempt to contact the suspect. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man appeared holding a knife and quickly advanced toward the deputy. The deputy fired their weapon, striking the individual and ending the immediate threat.
Deputies provided medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The suspect’s body will be sent to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The identity of the deceased and the deputy involved have not been released. Per standard procedure, the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation, and findings will be reviewed by the Office of the State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit.
