BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County officials are closely monitoring beach conditions following the onset of erosion along portions of the coastline.

Brevard County staff confirmed that the erosion was anticipated, largely due to a combination of factors including recent hurricane swells, strong easterly winds forecasted throughout the week, and seasonally high tides.

Tidal amplitude is expected to continue increasing through Wednesday, and with persistent winds, officials anticipate additional erosion along the shoreline in the coming days.

The most visible impacts are expected in the Mid Reach and South Beaches project areas, where beaches are currently at their narrowest.

Despite the temporary losses, the county expects natural recovery to occur once sea conditions calm.

“When the weather pattern moderates, the beaches will regain some sand through natural processes,” county staff noted.

The next scheduled beach nourishment project for the Mid Reach area is anticipated in approximately three years, to be managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Brevard County staff plan to coordinate closely with the Corps to ensure current beach conditions are taken into account during funding and project planning.

In the South Beaches area, the county already has a dune maintenance project planned between December 2025 and April 2026 to help reinforce coastal protection.

Staff will conduct a preliminary evaluation of erosion impacts early in the week, but a more comprehensive assessment is planned once tides and winds subside toward the end of the week.
