BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – NASA is encouraging skywatchers to look up this October as two meteor showers promise dazzling displays.
The Orionid meteor shower, one of the most anticipated celestial events of the fall season, will reach its peak on the night of October 21 into the early hours of October 22.
A new moon during this time will create ideal dark-sky conditions, allowing viewers a clear opportunity to spot numerous meteors streaking across the sky.
Earlier in the month, the Draconid meteor shower will also be visible. While typically less active than the Orionids, the Draconids can still produce memorable bursts of activity, particularly just after nightfall.
Both events offer stargazers a chance to experience the beauty of natural phenomena in space without the need for telescopes or special equipment.
NASA notes that October often brings additional celestial highlights, making it a favorable month for night sky enthusiasts.
With clear weather and minimal light pollution, observers may enjoy a stunning show as Earth passes through trails of cometary debris, producing what many call falling stars.
