Three suspects arrested after alert homeowner and witness help officers track fleeing vehicle

BRERVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Swift action by alert residents and decisive police work led to multiple arrests and the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics following a reported burglary attempt, said a Melbourne police spokesperson.
Officers McGaha and Renken responded to a call reporting individuals attempting to break into a residence.
According to police, the homeowner acted quickly—contacting 911 and activating a home alarm system—which prompted the suspects to flee before gaining entry.
As officers canvassed the area, a witness provided critical information, including details about a vehicle observed leaving at a high rate of speed. Using that information, officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and initiated an investigative stop.
During the encounter, officers took three suspects into custody without incident. While conducting the investigation, officers observed a large quantity of suspected narcotics in plain view inside the vehicle.

The drugs were seized as evidence, and the investigation has expanded to include potential additional charges related to narcotics offenses.
Police emphasized that the case remains active, with detectives continuing to gather information and determine whether additional individuals may be involved.
Officials praised the coordinated response as a clear example of how community vigilance and effective policing work together to protect neighborhoods.
“This case highlights the positive outcomes that occur when residents promptly report suspicious activity and officers respond with professionalism and dedication,” Melbourne police said in a statement.
The department commended Officers McGaha and Renken for their outstanding work and commitment to public safety, noting that their actions helped prevent a burglary and led to the removal of illegal drugs from the community.
