Law Enforcement Cracks Down on Unsafe Loads in Melbourne

‘Operation Overload’ Primarily Focused on Overloaded Dump Trucks

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A joint commercial vehicle enforcement effort led by the Florida Highway Patrol and the Melbourne Police Department focused on roadway safety along U.S. Highway 1 on Wednesday, January 7.

Melbourne Police Sergeant Benjamin Slover said the operation, known as “Operation Overload,” targeted commercial motor vehicles operating with unsecured or unsafe loads near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Lake Washington Road.

Officers also addressed secondary violations encountered during the detail.

During the operation, troopers and officers conducted four Level 2 and four Level 3 commercial motor vehicle inspections, along with five weight-violation inspections.

The inspections resulted in three uniform commercial citations and three uniform traffic citations.

Officers also identified a hotlist violation involving an unpaid fine totaling $6,070, which was paid by the violator during the operation.

Sergeant Slover said targeted enforcement efforts, such as Operation Overload, are designed to reduce crashes and improve safety in areas with heavy commercial vehicle traffic. Similar operations are expected to continue throughout the region.
