Melbourne Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash of 24-Year-Old Palm Bay Man

Omar Benkhye, 24, of Palm Bay, has died following a late-night motorcycle crash in Melbourne. Melbourne Police Sergeant Benjamin Slover said the crash happened Sunday night at 11:40 p.m. in the area of Montreal Avenue and Highland Avenue.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A 24-year-old Palm Bay man has died following a late-night motorcycle crash in Melbourne, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Melbourne Police Sergeant Benjamin Slover said the crash happened Sunday night at 11:40 p.m. in the area of Montreal Avenue and Highland Avenue.

MPD officers responded to a 911 call and, upon arrival, discovered that a 2011 black Kawasaki Concours 14 had left the roadway, struck an aluminum fence, a concrete light pole, and a concrete fence post.

The driver, identified by MPD  as Omar Benkhye, was ejected from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Brevard County Fire Rescue personnel transported Benkhye to a Brevard hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The crash led to the closure of all traffic lanes in the area for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation.

The Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is actively investigating the crash.
