The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of northern Brevard County, including the Cape Canaveral area, until 6:45 p.m. EDT Sunday.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of northern Brevard County, including the Cape Canaveral area, until 6:45 p.m. EDT Sunday.

According to forecasters, the storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and half-dollar-size hail.

Residents in the warned area should prepare for potentially damaging winds that could knock down tree limbs and cause minor property damage, along with hail that may damage vehicles, roofs, and outdoor property.

Officials urge residents to move indoors immediately, stay away from windows, and secure outdoor items.

Boaters and beachgoers near Cape Canaveral and surrounding coastal areas should seek safe shelter as storms approach.

Drivers are also advised to use caution, as sudden heavy rain, gusty winds, and hail can create hazardous travel conditions.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning means a storm capable of producing damaging winds or large hail is occurring or imminent. Residents should monitor local weather updates and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen.
