BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey released the following statement after a Blue Origin rocket exploded during a hot fire test in Cape Canaveral.

“A Blue Origin rocket exploded on the launchpad just moments ago during a static fire test ahead of a pending launch,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“There are no reported injuries at this time, and the current plan is to allow the contained fire from the explosion to burn itself out.

As first responders continue to serve Titusville, it’s important that Brevard County Sheriff’s Office remains properly equipped to handle all emergencies. Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® recognized their need for new lifesaving equipment and recently awarded the agency a $38,052 grant to purchase an inflatable shelter, insulation liner, a cooling and heating system, lighting and accessories.

Our agency, as well as Brevard County Emergency Management and Brevard County Fire Rescue, is monitoring the incident and stands ready to assist should the need arise.

There is no danger or threat to the community, and if any further information develops, we will provide an update as it becomes available.”
