BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy has been recognized for its commitment to conservation and outdoor education, earning second place in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) 2025-2026 Fishing & Conservation Challenge.

The statewide competition encourages students to participate in projects that promote conservation and ethical angling practices. Throughout the school year, students completed activities such as cleaning local waterways, practicing catch-and-release fishing, and teaching younger students about responsible fishing and environmental stewardship.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy was among the top-performing schools in Florida, finishing second behind Independence Classical Academy of Oviedo. David L. Anderson Middle School placed third.

“Programs like the School Fishing Program play an important role in developing the next generation of anglers,” said Jessica McCawley, Director of Marine Fisheries Management for the FWC. “By supporting schools, we are giving students the opportunity to develop valuable fishing skills while building an understanding of conservation and stewardship.”

The challenge highlights the importance of connecting students with Florida’s natural resources while fostering a lifelong appreciation for fishing and conservation.

Holy Trinity’s strong finish reflects the dedication of its students and educators to protecting local waterways and promoting responsible outdoor recreation.

Prizes for the 2025-2026 challenge were provided by Mud Hole Custom Tackle, Hobie Eyewear, and Flambeau Outdoors. Mud Hole, based in Oviedo, is the world’s largest supplier of rod-building and tackle equipment and has supported more than 150,000 students through its educational programs.

The FWC School Fishing Program provides fishing equipment and educational materials to eligible K-12 schools throughout Florida.

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year opens Aug. 20.
