The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic, including one approaching the Lesser Antilles and another several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic, including one approaching the Lesser Antilles and another several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
As of 8 p.m. Thursday, Tropical Disturbance AL92 was located approximately 800 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Its associated showers and thunderstorms have continued to become less organized.
AL92 is moving into an environment with stronger upper-level winds and dry air, reducing the likelihood of further development. The system now has a 40% chance of formation during both the next 48 hours and seven days.
Regardless of whether it develops into a tropical depression, AL92 could bring gusty winds and areas of heavy rainfall to portions of the Lesser Antilles on Friday night and Saturday.
Residents and visitors across the islands should continue monitoring the system’s progress.
Farther east, Tropical Disturbance AL94 continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
Environmental conditions are expected to remain generally favorable for gradual development. A tropical depression could form late this week or during the weekend as AL94 moves westward or west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
AL94 has a 30% chance of formation during the next 48 hours and a 50% chance over the next seven days.
Neither disturbance currently poses an immediate threat to Florida. However, both systems remain under observation as they move westward across the Atlantic.
