Brevard Teacher Pleas Guilty To Having Sex With 15-Year Old Student

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — Former teacher Irene Khan, 34, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to having sex with a 15-year old student.
Khan entered a plea to two years community control followed by 10 years probation. As part of her plea, she will be a registered sex offender for life.
Khan, who was a science teacher at Imagine School in West Melbourne, was arrested in June 2012 and alleged to have engaged in sexual activity with a male student of hers over a period of several months during the 2011-2012 school year.
Khan admitted to initiating the relationship after the student wrote his phone number on a classroom board, and police said she met the student in motel rooms.
“She got into a sexual relationship with him over several months and we got information on that and we brought the victim in and questioned him,” West Melbourne police spokesman Steve Wilkinson told WESH TV.
If Khan breaks the conditions set forth by Brevard Circuit Court Judge James Earp, she could be sentenced to prison for 30 years.

Police Arrest Teacher For Having Sex With Student
BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Police have arrested a 32-year-old Brevard teacher for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.
West Melbourne Police Commander Steve Wilkinson said Irene Isabel Kahn of Melbourne was taken into custody today on sex-related charges involving a 15-year-old boy.
Khan, who was a science teacher at Imagine School in West Melbourne at the time, is alleged to have engaged in sexual activity with a male student of hers over a period of several months during the 2011-2012 school year. She no longer is employed by the school.
Wilkinson said charges include enticing the victim to engage in sexual activity, committing sexual battery while in authority as an agent of the government, lewd or lascivious battery by engaging in sexual activity and lewd or lascivious molestation.
Wilkinson said the victim told police investigators that Khan engaged in sexual activity with him several times, including in her car, her apartment and several hotels and motels in the local area.
Khan was transported to Brevard County Jail following her arrest.
She formerly taught at Chiles Middle School in Oveido.
Imagine School is a charter school at 3355 Imagine Way off Hollywood Boulevard in West Melbourne.
