BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has determined the deadly shooting that resulted in two people dead Sunday evening was a murder-suicide, according to Cpl. Dave Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was identified as a 36-year-old woman Kristy Michelle Brunson of Altamonte Springs, Florida.

The suspected killer was identified as 32-year-old man by the name of Maurice Lavell Jackson of Winter Springs, Florida.

In a release by police, at around 7:55 p.m. Sunday evening, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Raceway located near the 2400 blocks off N. US 1, in Mims, with reference to a shooting.

Shortly after, two people were located by officials where one person was pronounced dead at the scene while the second person was transported for emergency medical attention, but later died as a result of their injuries, according Cpl. Jacobs.

Homicide Agents and Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene and interviewed witnesses where it was later determined that the suspect shot the woman, then turned the gun on himself.

According to authorities, this was an isolated incident and there are no other participants involved.
