Edgard Fuentes Indicted For Two Counts of First-Degree Murder After Setting Mother and Son On Fire

**UPDATE**BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Edgard Fuentes, 64, of Palm Bay has been indicted for two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder and arson.

Fuentes is accused of setting is estranged wife and her son after an altercation last month.

The wife and son died a short time later at the hospital, while Fuentes suffered severe burns in the process.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The man allegedly responsible for killing his wife and her son back in January, 64-year-old Edgard Fuentes, has been released from the hospital and is currently being housed at the Brevard County Jail.

Fuentes suffered severe burns and was listed in extreme critical condition for a brief time.

Edgard Fuentes was wanted by police in mid-January for an arrest warrant on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Attempted Felony Murder, Arson and Burglary.

In a release by police, at around 12 a.m. on Jan. 12  near the 500 block of Ixora Avenue NW, Fuentes broke into his estranged wife’s home and poured gasoline on his wife while she was in bed.

The adult son of the victim, who was with his mother at the home at the time, heard her shout when she was awoken by her husband and tried to stop his step-father from lighting the fire, according to Lt. Mike Bandish of the Palm Bay Police Department.

Following the struggle, Fuentes was successful in igniting flames in the home that sent his wife and her son to the hospital, where they later died.

Hours later, the search continued for Fuentes, but was later taken into custody after a motorist spotted him at the rest station south of Malabar Road on I-95 in the red GMC, according to Palm Bay Police.

The States Attorney’s Office will now set a date for a grand jury, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police announced the mother and son injured in Jan. 12 morning’s blaze set by the woman’s estranged husband near the 500 block of Ixora Avenue, have died.

According to authorities, 61-year-old Daisy Tapia and 32-year-old Eric Montes were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where they were listed in critical condition when they arrived at the hospital have died as a result of their injuries.

“It just breaks my heart. I can’t come up with words for it. It’s just heartbreaking,” said nearby resident Todd Gagnon speaking to WFTV.

Fuentes suffered severe burns and was air lifted to the hospital.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police are searching for 64-year-old Edgard Fuentes who is wanted for an arrest warrant on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Attempted Felony Murder, Arson and Burglary.

The suspect is described as a hispanic man with grey facial hair.

According to Palm Bay Police, Fuentes was last seen driving a 2007 GMC Envoy Denali, Deep Red, with Florida tag 245TIR.

Following a struggle, Fuentes was successful in igniting flames in the home that sent his wife and her son to the hospital.

Two other people in the home were also taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
