Eastern Florida Baseball Picks Up Win Against Indian River State 7-6

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College baseball team rallied back in the seventh inning to defeat Indian River State College 7-6 in a Southern Conference matchup Friday night.

Down 6-3 in the seventh inning, Luis Cabrera led off with a double and then Dylan Espinal singled. Kevin Silva came up and put down a nice bunt scoring Cabrera and beating the throw to cut the lead to 6-4. Then Elian Merejo laid down a perfect bunt and as he sprinted to first base, collided with the Indian River first baseman. Two runs would score and the game was tied 6-6.

Then with two outs and Merejo on second base, Jakob Zerrello hit a single through the infield to give the Titans a 7-6 lead.

That was all JP Williams would need as he pitched two scoreless innings for the save.

The Titans opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Cristian Sanjurjo led off with a single and scored on Jasson Corniel’s two out triple. Paul Castillo would then single, scoring Corniel and then Castillo scored the final run of the inning on Cabrera’s double.

Titans starter Mason Studstill ran into trouble in the fifth inning as Indian River State College would take the lead 6-3. Studstill finished with eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Zak Botelle would come into the game and get the double play ball to end the inning. Botelle got the win, allowing one run in 1 2/3 innings.

The Titans will go for the series win on Saturday afternoon at Indian River State College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Florida State College will be back at Bruce Bochy Field Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against ASA Miami.
