Magic Owner Holds On to Hope and Howard, For Now

ORLANDO, Fla. — The 85-year-old man looked frail, sitting in a wheelchair in the center of the Orlando Magic’s circular locker room, a cane in his right hand. But when he spoke, Rich DeVos’s voice was strong, his message direct.

“I don’t want to trade him,” he said.

Barely a bounce pass away, Dwight Howard chatted at his locker with his teammate Quentin Richardson in preparation for Wednesday night’s game against the Miami Heat. Howard had to have heard, though, what DeVos, the Magic’s billionaire owner, had to say.
