Both long-time supporters and newcomers joined together to raise funds to benefit local children battling cancer.

“We were very blessed to raise $162,000 this year.” said Carrie Wam, Executive Director.

“One hundred percent of our proceeds benefit children in Brevard County.  We recognize the needs of these families, and our treatment fund helps these families with utility bills, gas, food, and other essentials.” said Wam.

The proceeds were raised through ticket sales, a live auction, sponsor donations, and a car raffle.  A 2012 Hyundai Sonata was donated by Coastal Hyundai and the Nelson family.  Local resident Joe Deautch was surprised and pleased to learn he was the winner of a new Sonata.

Those attending the Extravaganza included Tom and Charlotte Weinckowski, Nancy Dyer, Linda Parker, Mike and Janice Spragins, Ken and Elizabeth Whittaker, and Robin Miller.

Now in its 23rd year, Candlelighters of Brevard is devoted to serving the needs of children diagnosed with cancer, and their families.

“Because of a generous community and devoted volunteers, we have been able to offer emotional and financial support to more than 200 people on an ongoing monthly basis” said Paul Phelps, Board Chairman of Candlelighters of Brevard.
