Salsa Winners Spice Up Fiesta Brevard Event

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – More than 1,500 people came out to enjoy the Eighth Annual Fiesta Brevard, a collaborative community awareness/fundraising event for 20 Brevard County non-profit organizations.

The event was held at the International Palms Resort in Cocoa Beach on April 27.

Along with all the fiesta fun and more than $30,000 in prizes awarded to participants, bea

ming winners of the salsa, best “dressed” booth and fiesta hat contests were celebrating.

In the Judge’s Choice division of Brevard’s Best Salsa Contest, the winners were:

 • 1st Place – Hospice of St. Francis – “Heavenly Heat”

 • 2nd Place – Volunteers of America, Cocoa – “Sarge Smoking Hot Salsa”

 • 3rd Place – Space Coast UCF Alumni – “Black & Gold”

In the People’s Choice division of Brevard’s Best Salsa Contest, the winners were:

 • 1st Place – Creative Mixes – “Island Delight”

 • 2nd Place – Space Coast UCF Alumni – “Black & Gold”

 • 3rd Place – AFLAC – “Duck Salsa”

The first place winner of the Judge’s Choice and the People’s Choice Salsa Contest will be serving up their winning recipes at the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Chowder with a Twist that will be held in the spring of 2013.

The Best “Dressed” Booth Contest for the participating non-profits was held again this year.

The non-profit booths were judged on the creativity of their decorations and how their decorations best conveyed their organization’s mission.

THE WINNERS INCLUDED:

 • First Place – WEGO Ministries

 • Second Place – Harmony Farms

 • Third Place – Brittany’s Wish.

The Hat Contest always produces some very fun and creative designs, and this year was no exception.

In the adult division, First Place was awarded to Amy MacDonald, Second Place to Cathy Funkhouser and Third Place to Julie Dula.

Fiesta Brevard is a community awareness/fundraising project organized by the Non-Profit Task Force Committee of the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The Non-Profit Task Force Committee was formed to help provide support to Brevard County non-profit chamber partners through education and fundraising projects.

The Ninth annual Fiesta Brevard will be held next year on a date to be announced.
