Little League All-Stars Show Tournament Toughness

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – As some Little League All-Star squads practice to compete in sectional tournaments this weekend, other teams remain in contention for district championships.

In the District 2 Seniors baseball tournament at Viera Regional Park, Palm Bay looks like a serious contender this year.

Palm Bay West defeated Eau Gallie 15-4 and beat Palm Bay East 8-7, while South Beaches outlasted Viera/Suntree 12-5.

In Junior baseball at Viera Regional Park, Palm Bay West knocked off Eau Gallie Blue 14-4 on Sunday and Viera/Suntree topped West Melbourne 19-2.

Eau Gallie Gold also shut out Beachside 2-0 on Sunday in another Junior division baseball game.

West Melbourne stopped Eau Gallie Blue 10-2 at Viera Regional Park on Monday.

In the District 2 Majors baseball Tournament at Viera Regional Park on Sunday, Viera/Suntree dropped Beachside 10-0 and Eau Gallie Gold blanked Palm Bay West 21-0.

In another Majors game at Viera Regional Park, Eau Gallie Blue turned back South Beaches 7-4.

And on Monday, Eau Gallie Gold swamped West Melbourne 14-3.

Softball action got under way at Rockledge Park on Monday night with Port St. John and Rockledge meeting in the Majors softball division.

Rockledge claimed a 15-0 win in 3 1/2 innings. Bianca Cruz, Sara Thomas and Ashley Stevensen combined on the mound for the shutout for Rockledge.

In Seniors division softball, Port St. John took a 9-3 victory over Mims.

Abby Dohmlo had a double and a RBI for Mims. For Port St. John, Monica McCarthy had a triple. Briana Eberhardt, Jamie Thomas, Alexa Humes and Desiree Shinabarger had doubles for Port St. John.

Senior division baseball also began Monday with Merritt Island Senior meeting Rockledge.

With Rockledge clinging to a 1-0 lead going into the sixth inning, the Rockledge bats came alive. Ryan Hinz hit an RBI double and Brennon Miller and Zach Potts tacking on 2-RBI doubles each for a 10-0 Rockledge victory in 6 innings.

At Holder Park in Mims on Sunday, Indian River City 9-10 All-Stars played a long and hard game against Port St. John LL and came up just short, falling 12-11 in eight innings.

For Indian River City, Preston Mauzy went 4-for-5 and Parker Cera went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored 3 of IRC’s runs. Levi Moore and Richie Leonard both drove in 2 RBIs each for Port St. John. Leonard and Alex Doane had doubles and Alex Getz drove in Port St. John’s winning run in the 8th.

At W.W. James Park in Titusville on Sunday, Joe Irlbeck of Mims doubled in the 5th inning and homered in the 6th for the go-ahead run in a Mims 4-3 Majors win over Port St. John.  Scott Perrine doubled and Connor Giles had two singles and scored two of Port St. John’s runs.

In Juniors baseball Sunday at Holder Park, Merritt Island Senior outscored Indian River City 12-4 in 7 innings.

  1. I have not seen anything on Rockledge Juniors Campionship. There was a gentleman out there taking the boys pictures but I have seen nothing. I could be over-looking it too. Let me know!! Love the SCD!!!!!
