Fonseca Leads FIT Women’s Cross Country With 34th Place Finish

GAINSEVILLE• FLORIDA— Host team University of Florida registered each of the top five spots en route to winning the Mountain Dew Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida.

Florida Tech finished 16th of 18 teams in the race.

The top finisher for the Panthers was senior Stephanie Fonseca, who ran the 5k race in 19:24.88, winding up in 37th place.

Senior Brianna Fugere also marked a top-100 time, completing the course in 20:30.10 to finish 82nd.

Sunshine State Conference foe, Tampa, marked the best team school of NCAA Division II competitors with a fourth place finish.

FIT recorded a team average time of 21:03.81, placing ahead of Augusta State and Stetson in the standings.

The Panthers will compete again Sept. 29 in the Saint Leo Invitational.

The race, to be run at The Abbey Golf Course in Saint Leo, Fla., is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
