Deone Torrese Turpin of Cocoa, 32, was arrested Monday for battery/dating violence.

He is being held in the Brevard County Jail and has refused to cooperate with investigators.

At about 5 a.m. Sunday, a woman entered the Pilot Convenience Store at 4455 West King Street in Cocoa with what appeared to be blood on her clothing and a swollen eye.

She told the clerk that she ran away from a man and needed to call her mother.

A few minutes later, Turpin entered the store and forced the victim, his ex-girlfriend, into a car and then fled the area with the victim.

The vehicle was later found about two miles from the store.

A request was made through the media to assist the Sheriff’s Office in locating the victim and she was found safe later that evening.

The victim denied being forced to stay with the suspect, but acknowledged that she was battered.
