BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Ocean Rescue will host open tryouts for seasonal lifeguards at 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Rockledge High School.

Candidates must be at the swimming pool by 7 a.m. or they will not be permitted to participate.
While no lifeguarding experience is necessary, candidates must be over the age of 16 and possess strong swimming skills. Anyone wishing to try out for one of the open positions must bring with them: a valid Driver’s License, Social Security card, appropriate swim attire/towel, and running shoes.
All candidates will be required to swim 500 meters in less than 10 minutes and complete a two-mile run in under 20 minutes. Advanced registration is not required; however, testing will begin promptly and anyone arriving after testing begins will not be permitted to tryout. Those wishing to participate should bring food and water with them due to the physical nature of this tryout.
All candidates selected after tryouts will be required to continue the application process at Brevard County’s Fire Rescue Center until 5 p.m.
If selected, completion of the hiring process is dependent upon the candidate’s ability to pass a background test and successfully complete a paid training course.
The starting pay for ocean lifeguards is $9.46/hour. Currently, Ocean Rescue is seeking to staff 50 seasonal lifeguard positions that will operate from March through October.
