BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – It took determination and a willingness to get dirty to survive the first War of the elemtns competition at Florida Institute of Technology on Saturday.

Inspired by Tough Mudder type of obstacle courses, the event was built around the Columbia Village on the FIT campus and put together by a group of Florida Tech Residential Advisors.

About 70 people braved the course in two separate waves of participants.

Obstacles included balls of baby powder being thrown at you, a mud crawl, a rope climb, something called “Hills of Hell” consisting of rope and rock wall pyramids, mud holes some as deep as 2 feet and climbing over dirt mounds.
